Disability Equality Education

Disability Equality Education is a Higher Education Qualification for Facilitators, particularly disabled people who wish to facilitate training in Disability Equality issues.

The Lifetrain Trust in Partnership with the University of Surrey have designed and accredited 3 modules of Disability Equality Education. Students who complete all three modules will be awarded with a Foundation Diploma in Disability Equality Facilitation.


Module One

Disability Equality Education (Level 2)

Disability Equality Education (DEE) is critical to both social and corporate development at a time of constant social change and growing appreciation of diversity. This module will enable you:

  • to develop a critical understanding of disability issues;
  • to review your values and beliefs; and
  • to develop your understanding of a social model which has an impact on how you develop this awareness in others.

You will also consider; the use of language; perceptions of disability; legislative frameworks and diversity; and inclusion and empowerment. The module is appropriate for disabled and non-disabled people from diverse backgrounds, such as freelance trainers, human resource and personnel officers, and those in business or voluntary sectors, whose roles include disability equality matters. Credits: 20


Module Two

Introduction to Facilitation in Disability Equality Education * (Level 2)

The module is designed to enable you to develop effective educational approaches and techniques for working with individuals and groups of disabled and non-disabled people. You will be introduced to theories on how adults learn, how to create a comfortable learning environment, facilitate learning groups, and select appropriate resources. During the module you will consider a range of approaches for delivering disability education sessions, and how to plan and deliver a micro-facilitation session. Credits: 20

*It is expected that you will have successfully completed the module Disability Equality Education (at Level 2) prior to joining this module.


Module Three

Developing Professional Practice in Disability Equality Education* (Level 2)

With the increasing recognition that disability equality education (DEE) is becoming a critical part of social and corporate development, there is a need to develop quality practice and critical, reflective practitioners. This module offers you the opportunity enhance your own reflective practice using co-mentoring, peer review and networking with relevant professional organisations and networks. You will also consider strategies for creating a professional portfolio of support material. There are opportunities for the participants to exercise appropriate judgement in planning, selecting or presenting information, methods or resources. Credits: 20

*It is expected that you will have successfully completed the modules Disability Equality Education (at Level 2) and Introduction to Facilitation in Disability Equality Education prior to joining this module.
